Anti-Wrinkle Injections
Muscle-relaxing wrinkle injections are one of the most common non-surgical injectable treatments available worldwide. The treatment has little to no downtime and can be used on many areas of the face and body, including:
Eye wrinkles (crows feet)
Frown lines
Forehead lines
Lifting the brow
Facial slimming
Teeth grinding
Chronic migraines
Excessive sweating in the armpits and hands (hyperhydrosis)
Anti-wrinkle injections will make you appear more fresh and rejuvenated, and is a relatively low-risk treatment to prevent and maintain a youthful appearance.
How does it work?
Anti-wrinkle injections are a neurotoxin that works by blocking the messages from the nerves to certain muscles, therefore reducing the ability of that muscle to contract and result in the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
The effects of frowning, squinting and the repetitive movement of our muscles from facial expressions can cause superficial and deep creases to appear. With the aging process, our skin naturally becomes less elastic, causing these lines to stay permanently on our face, whether contracting these muscles or not. The injections will weaken these muscles to result in a smoother and fresher appearance.
How long do anti-wrinkle injections last?
At 2-8 days the lines start to decrease
At 2 weeks the maximal effect is achieved
From 4-8 weeks the result is maintained
At 8 weeks the effect slowly begins to start wearing off
At 12 weeks, the movement is about 50% back
At 16 weeks, the movement is about 80% back
Most patients choose to have their next treatment around the 3-4 month mark, however this varies between patients due to factors such as exercise regime, metabolism, history of use of anti-wrinkle and dosage.
Is the procedure painful?
The pain is relatively minimal as a fine needle is used to administer the product. We do offer numbing cream and ice to our clients to aid in the reduction of any pain. Most patients do not require numbing cream and prefer ice.
How long does it take?
The injections themselves only take around 10 minutes, however before any injecting can be done a thorough consultation and assessment is conducted, photos are taken and the skin is cleaned. An anti-wrinkle appointment generally takes around 30 minutes.
Who cannot get anti-wrinkle treatment?
Anti-wrinkle injections may not be advisable if you have a known allergy to the product, an active infection in the treatment area(s), or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
What do I need to avoid prior to treatment?
Avoid blood thinning medications such as Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Naproxen for 7 days prior to your treatment. These meditations may increase your chances of bruising and bleeding however may not stop you from having the treatment pending a consultation. If you are on any prescription blood thinning medications, do not stop taking these medications unless specifically instructed to do so by your health care practitioner.
We also recommend scheduling your treatment at least 4 weeks prior to a big event to allow any bruising to resolve.
Aftercare
Depending on the sensitivity of your skin and any medications being taken (like aspirin, ibuprofen, and other blood thinners), there is the chance of temporary side effects such as:
Mild swelling at or around the injection sites
Mild tenderness or bruising at or around the injection sites
Tiny red dots at the injection sites
A mild headache, depending on the treatment area
On the day of your treatment we recommend:
No exercising
No drinking alcohol
Avoid touching the area by rubbing or applying physical pressure
Relax for the rest of the day
