Dermal Filler
Dermal fillers are a fantastic way to address loss of volume that occurs from the inevitable ageing process. They are used to help minimise facial lines and restore volume and fullness in the face that was once there. We can define and sculpt areas of the face using filler, most often used in the mid face, lips, chin and jawline. By strengthening the facial structures we can create a more youthful appearance.
We offer filler treatment for:
Lip enhancement
Minimizing dark circles and hollows under the eyes (tear troughs)
Chin augmentation
Cheek enhancement
Restoring volume loss
Wrinkle reduction
How do Dermal Fillers work?
Dermal fillers work by mimicking a naturally occurring substance within the body – a sugar molecule that exists naturally in almost all living organisms and helps to keep the skin hydrated. As we age, the skin loses its ability to retain moisture and dermal fillers replenish it by revitalising and adding volume to the area instantly. This immediately reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
How long does the treatment take?
The injections themselves only take around 30-45 minutes, however before any injecting can be done a thorough consultation and assessment is conducted, photos are taken, the skin is cleaned and numbing cream applied for approximately 20-30 minutes.
Are there any side effects?
Immediately after your treatment, you can expect some mild redness and swelling in the treated areas. Bruising may occur, and most people will be able to have their injections and then return to their daily activities little to no down time.
When will I begin to notice results?
Clients will start to notice the effect of the treatment instantly, however, final results can take approximately 4 weeks as the dermal filler integrates into your natural tissue. Typically, the effect will last up to 1-2 years depending on the individual, product type, and treatment area.
The longevity of dermal filler results varies depending on the type of product used and the area treated. Most fillers last between 9 months and 2 years.
Is the procedure painful?
The procedure is usually well tolerated, however we offer numbing cream and ice to our clients to aid in any discomfort.
Who cannot get dermal fillers?
Dermal filler injections may not be advisable if you have a known allergy to the product, active infection in the treatment area or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
What do I need to avoid prior to treatment?
Avoid blood thinning medications such as Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Naproxen for 7 days prior to your treatment. These medications may increase your chances of bruising and bleeding however may not stop you from having the treatment pending a consultation. If you are on any prescription blood thinning medications, do not stop taking these medications unless specifically instructed to do so by your health care practitioner.
We also recommend scheduling your treatment at least 4 weeks prior to a big event to allow any bruising to resolve.
Aftercare
Depending on the sensitivity of your skin and any medications being taken (like aspirin, ibuprofen, and other blood thinners), there is the chance of temporary side effects such as:
Swelling at the injection sites
Mild tenderness or bruising at or around the injection sites
Tiny red dots at the injection sites
On the day of your treatment we recommend:
No exercising
No drinking alcohol
Avoid touching the area by rubbing or applying physical pressure
Avoid exposing the areas to heat
Relax for the rest of the day
Take paracetamol if needed for pain relief
